Wouldn’t it be great if cigarette’s weren’t bad? They were good for us? Doctors gave them out like to do with medicine. In the early’00s, that was the case, the common believe that cigarettes were a natural healer. By today’s standards we all know that is not the case, smoking is very harmful. Which is why quitting is becoming more and more of a choice. Quitting smoking without NRT may be the right choice for you.
Needless to say people smoke anyway. I hate to admit, but I was one of those people. I was a smoker for over six years. And when you start to smoke, or at least when I started, the deadly affects are the last thing you think of. Then I started to smoke more often. I thought I could never become addicted to cigarettes. A year later I am smoking a pack and a half a day.
The first thing any smoker needs to quit is (drum roll please) themselves. It is impossible to quit with being on the fence about smoking. A firm decision must be made. And that decision starts with you.
There are so many different ways to help quit smoking. All the NRT (nicotine replacement therapy) it’s hard to know which one is right. And I have tried it all. The patch, the gum, a few pills, even the new electronic cigarette. All of them worked for a while. After a certain period of time I found myself smoking again.
I figured out with the NRTs I was still taking in nicotine, and that gave me a taste of smoking. This made me want to smoke more. It was more enticing me than helping me. I found out the best way for me to quit was cold turkey.
I have five tips that prevented me from not picking up another cigarette. Who knows, this could help you with the quitting process. Go to the gym or on a run. This will make you remember you have these things called lungs. It also gives you something else to commit to. Drink a lot of juice. This has been proven to flush the nicotine out. Breathe. When you have a craving breathe, act like you have a cigarette, you might fool your mind. Take it one day at a time. Going your entire life without a cigarette is the goal, but hard to imagine when you smoke forty a day. Just one day at a time. And finally know that you are not a smoker. Think of the reasons why you aren’t anymore. There are many reason why you quit.
Quitting is tough. Quitting cold turkey is harder. But, more effective in the long run, and takes a shorter amount of time then with NRT. Smoking is a physical addiction where your body needs nicotine you will be in the state of withdrawal between four and seven days. Then and only then the mind addiction is set for the next two weeks to a month. Beyond that, you should be free from even the thought of smoke.
It’s hard to tell when to quit with NRT. Your body doesn’t know when the nicotine is going to stop. It seems to me the easiest way to relapse is when you are not sure how the NRT is working. Yet, I have heard and seen many success stories with the help on NRT. But its not for everyone, and that doesn’t mean that quitting isn’t for you.
